Hello, thank you for visiting and welcome along to the website of the Lovelace Theatre Group. We are a dynamic and vibrant group engaged in the production of plays, musicals and amateur theatre.
The Lovelace Theatre Group puts on three productions a year and has a long history dating back to the late 60's. We perform at the John Godber Centre in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. The building is a converted church hall which has a purpose built stage complete with licenced bar and full amenities. There's rumoured to be a ghost wandering about backstage too! Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a fun, family-friendly pantomime based on the classic fairy tale. Snow White is a kind princess whose jealous stepmother, the Wicked Queen, wants to be the fairest in the land. After Snow White escapes into the forest, she meets the Seven Dwarfs, who help protect her from the Queen.
With plenty of comedy, audience participation, colourful characters, songs, dancing and slapstick, the Queen’s plans eventually unravel..
This popular theatre play by Hull playwright John Godber takes place in the Mid 90s. Back in the day when Cilla was on Saturday evening TV with Blind Date and the National Lottery was the highlight of many people's week.
When Morris and Jean win the lottery to the tune of 2 million pounds, will it change their lives? Of course it does!
The question is will it be for better or worse??
Our production of 'The Wizard of Oz' follows Dorothy, who is swept away by a tornado to the magical land of Oz with her dog Toto. Her house lands on and kills the Wicked Witch of the East, earning the gratitude of the Munchkins and the enmity of the Wicked Witch of the West. Dorothy sets off on the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City to seek help from the Wizard of Oz in returning home.

We are pleased to being you our October production which we are very excited about because it's the stage play adaptation of the classic comedy 'The Vicar of Dibley'! Centered on the charming village of Dibley we bring its quirky residents to life. It's the unexpected arrival of a new vicar who wins over the eccentric locals, including the bumbling Hugo Horton, his overbearing father David, and the delightfully dim Alice Tinker. With a mix of witty dialogue, slapstick moments, and heartfelt scenes, the play celebrates acceptance, community, and the power of laughter to bridge even the widest of gaps.

Laughs a plenty and plenty of entertainment was on offer during the run of our annual panto Aladdin back in January.
The cast put in solid performances for the whole run and worked tirelessly to provide the audience with fun and laughter. As ever thanks go to the cast, crew and directors for making our panto a revered institution stretching back more than 50 years.

And just like that, and we shall say this only once, it is all over. A rip roaring success by our outstanding cast made fantastic entertainment.
'Side splitting shananigans 😂😂 a really enjoyable and lol evening! Brought back lots of lovely memories from the show. Well done to all of you.'..'Loved it you all were amazing well done laughing from start to finish'..'Excellent show with superb performances from all the cast. What surprised me was the flowing story line, interspersed with sketches to keep the story moving on. An outstanding script which was professionally delivered. Well done to all involved'..'Loved it! In July we had a fantastic turn out from our members and families at our end of year celebrations 🎉 We watched a couple of juniors perform their graduation pieces, they will now join us in the adult section! Keep an eye out for them in future productions We celebrated another amazing year we have had! A year full of outstanding productions and sell out shows! This wouldn't be possible without your continued support so from us to you....THANK YOU 🫶
January saw our pantomine 'Robin Hood' take to the stage to great acclaim. Four days of high quality entertainment provided much need laughs and happiness as our cast worked hard to being the best that Panto has to offer.
Our own Steve Beeton wrote the script and it was all ably directed by Lovelace stalwarts Bec and Sian.

After all the stresses and chaos of A Night To Remember, a group of us went out to see 'Peter Pan Goes Wrong' at the Theatre Royal.
What a great afternoon we had! A show full of surprises and a lot of laughs. If you get the chance to see it, we fully recommend it.
It is with sadness that in February 2023 we have learned of the death of the founder of the Lovelace Theatre Group, David Henty.
David began the group in 1968 as the Hucknall Dramatic Society, after noting a lack of drama opportunities in Hucknall. The group quickly went from strength to strength leading up to the successful and vibrant operation it is today. His dedication in driving and moving the group forward in those early years was the basis for all we have today.
On behalf of everyone involved today with the Lovelace Group, we send our heartfelt condolences to David's family and give thanks for the immense contribution he has made to our community.

Lovers of fantasy author Terry Pratchett are in for a treat as we showcase his well known work 'Wyrd Sisters'. A tale of witches, dead Kings and Dukes, this is sure to be a hit as we explore the intricasies of the characters of this great play, adapted by Stephen Briggs.

We are pleased to announce that the next production for the Lovelace group will be Grease! This sure to be a major hit, featuring the famous songs we all know.
The Lovelace Theatre Group is always on the lookout for new talent, not only with adults but also children. They are our lifeblood, especially for our annual pantomime which takes place in January each year.
We hold a meeting for the Junior Group each Wednesday evening from 7:45pm to 9:30pm and these consist of drama sessions and acting lessons as well as song and dance. A small nominal cost of £1 to cover the cost of hire of our venue is made for this. Adult sessions are also held every Monday and Thursday evenings from 7:30pm to 10:00. These will generally consist of rehersals for the next production.

So, how did it all start? The original Hucknall Drama Club was formed in the 1930's. One of it's members was Robin Bailey who later gained fame as a noted actor; appearing in many films and on television. Robin was a patron of the group for a while and passed away on 14th January 1999.
The Hucknall Drama Group eventually disbanded. Then, in 1968 a teacher called David Henty came to live in Hucknall. When he discovered there was no drama group in the town he decided to form one to showcase the talent of Hucknall and beyond.
The church hall was the ideal venue for this purpose and with borrowed money he staged a grand performance of 'Cinderella' and so the Hucknall Dramatic Society was born.
For the last 40 years or so the group was guided and influenced by Kath and Keith Wiliams who actively participated right up until a few years ago when both sadly passed away.
